Imphal, August 25 2018:
All Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Union has strongly condemned the act of locking the office of Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board on August 24 on charge that the board failed to disburse the pending payment of benefits to workers.
It alleged that the act seems to have been carried out at the behest of some members of Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Federation.
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, All Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Union president T Nando termed the locking of the office as an attempt to obstruct the Chairperson from discharging duties.
"It seems that the act was carried out at the behest of some individuals who do wrong things in the name of helping innocent labourers and workers," he said.
He went on to allege that the act was seemingly an attempt to "conceal' the wrongdoings of some individuals who "took bribe from labourer for making labour cards" .
The Chairman of the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board is making his best efforts to expedite the process of pending works as the High Court of Manipur had vacated a stay order on August 6 this year, he said.
He explained that the High Court of Manipur had issued a stay order on May 22 this year on the appointment order of the Chairman of the Board and had been put on care since then after the Chairman took charge on May 18 .
Since after the Court vacated the stay order on August 6, the Chairman has resumed his service and is expeditiously trying to execute all the pending works of the Board, he said.
As such, all the related labour unions and individuals, including the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Federation should consider the circumstantial things and give co-operation to the Chairman and staffs, he said.
