A press meet was held today at Lairembi Phampak, Kalinagar Jiribam at around 2.30 pm by Kalinagar Youth Club (KYC), Jiribam to highlight the plight ofpublic due to shortage of drinking water.

In the press meet, H Dhani Meetei said that eight years back the present PHED division was used to function as subdivision under AE while adding that in those time there was no shortage of water in Kalinagar.
Alum and Bleaching powder were also distributed through club in the region, he added.
He alleged that after it has been upgraded to PHED division with the posting of Executive Engineer (EE) and adequate number of staff in 2008, supply of water has drastically reduced and is now completely stopped rendering the residents of Kalinagar suffered from acute shortage of drinking water .
He also said that even though Kalinagar Ward No 1, 2 and 3 is surrounded by Jiri River, due to the failure of the officials of PHED department, the residents are facing acute artificial shortage of drinking water.
Mentioned may be made that PHED division had been kept locked in the intervening period of February and March this year by the public in protest against the indifferent attitude of the officials, however it was opened after EE gave assurance to take up appropriate measures for regular supply of water.
But the assurance has not been translated into action till date, he added.
KYC and its representatives sought intervention from the State Government to address the issue at the earliest so that the plight of the public can be lessened.
