CCpur, August 25 2018:
The Zomi Students' Federation have raised its concern and objection to the demand of Kangleipak Students' Association for deletion of Simte and Sukte from the list of Schedule Tribes in Manipur.
A statement of ZSF claimed that both the tribes are kindred tribes of Zomi and maintained that any sinister design to remove them from the ST list will not be tolerated at any cost.
Simte and Sukte tribes, like any other recognised tribes, are granted constitutional recognition based on their unique history, culture, tradition and linguistics, the statement added.
The ZSF GHQ will, therefore, oppose tooth and nail to any intention to disturb and upset the 'Constitutional identity' of the Zo kindred tribes in Manipur, it warned and further advise every organisation to desist from interfering in the internal affairs of Zomi.
It also asked the KSA to come out with an explanation and a justification as to why Simte and Sukte should be deleted from the ST list.
