Kakching Khunou College students' union has accused one of the college teachers of working together with the branch manager of Manipur Rural Bank, Kakching, and withdrawing around Rs 36.32 lakh from the college account.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the students' union secretary Sorokhaibam Malemnganba warned that if the money allegedly withdrawn from the college account is not returned by August 28, the union will launch intense agitation.
He alleged that one teacher identified, as Sh Manitombi Devi, collaborated with the branch manager of MRB Kakching and withdrew Rs 36.32 lakhh from the college account on August 16.Claiming that Manitombi did not have any power of a DDO, he asked how she was able to withdraw such a large sum of money from the account.
The secretary further warned the teacher against setting foot in the college until and unless the money is returned to the account.
On the other hand, Malemnganba condemned the lack of a regular Principal at the college for the past two years and added that the situation has created immense inconveniences for the students and the teachers.
He informed that initially a teacher Dr M Sarda Devi functioned as the Principal in-charge of the college for some time but after the case of Sh Manitombi reached the Court, the post of the college Principal became vacant again.
Then on July 13, the Joint Director of Higher and Technical Education, Manipur, L Iboyaima was posted as the Principal in-charge of the college, he explained and appealed to the State Government to appoint a regular Principal for the college at the earliest.
