Bishnupur, August 21 2018:
As many organisations raised concern over a "possible extension" of Article 371A of the Indian Constitution, which is concerned with the State of Nagaland, to Manipur, organisations, clubs and Nupi Lups based in Kumbi staged a mass sit-in under the aegis of UCM at Kumbi Bazar today.
UCM president Sunil Karam, UCM external affairs secretary Roshikanta Takhelcha, National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) vice president Th Manihar and members of ANUL Bishnupur took part in the sit-in.
Speaking at the sit-n, president NIPCO Th Manihar said that the recent introduction of the Article 371 A in the peace talk between NSCN IM and Government of India has triggered alarm.
"The State was threatened in 2001, when there was BJP Govt in the Centre.
Great June 18 uprising was born as a result of the cease fire "without territorial limit" announced by Central Government.
And now the introduction of Article 371 A in the peace talk has caused concern and triggered alarm," he said.
"Despite the Government's claim that the State integrity will not be compromised, the Article 371A, if exercised in Manipur will threaten the integrity and sovereignty of the State, he asserted.
"The Article will act like walls inside a house," he said pointing out that it will further divide the State.
He further condemned the State Government for not holding Assembly Session to take strong resolution against the Framework Agreement and the "possible extension" of Article 371 A .
The sit-in was organised by Kumbi Kendra Women Welfare Association, Kumbi Terakha Youth Club, Kumbi Setupur Youth Development Social Welfare Association, Kumbi Setupur Youth Club, Khuga Athletics & Library Association, Ecology Environment Federation, Kumbi Progressive Farmers Association, Kumbi Awang Leikai Youth Club, Kumbi Apunba Nupi Lup and Kumbi Keithel vendors and shopkeepers under the aegis of UCM.
