Foundation for construction of 'Rilram area Friday weekly market shed' has been laid at Kampang Khullen under Machi Block of Chandel district during a function jointly organized by Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM); Eastern Maring Organisation (EMO) and Kampang Khullen Village Authority today.
To be constructed under the funding of Special Plan Assistance, the foundation stone laying of the market shed was attended by ICHAM president N Rajendro and EMO president M Ajiast Seiyao as chief guest and functional president respectively.
The step to construct the market shed, which is expected to benefit more than 9,000 population in 15 villages under Machi block, has been initiated as part of the ongoing effort of ICHAM to bridge the developmental gap between the hill and the valley districts.
Speaking at the occasion, Rajendro observed that the Govt should pay special attention to the development of the people living in remote areas of the State.
Maintaining that no individual community would be able to bring about peace and development in the society, he said collective response is necessary in this regard.
He also stressed on work culture among the people.
The president of Rural People's Development Federation (RPDF) M Wontimla, secretary of Tengnoupal Block Development Action Committee M Thomshing and president of Kuki Chief Association Holkhokhai were also present and spoke at the occasion emphasizing on the need for development of villages in the remote hill areas of the State.
