Reiterating the public demand for resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, leaders of various civil organizations, who participated in a public dialogue on the July 23 fake encounter incident at Khwairamband Bazar, have asked the political leaders to understand the aspiration of the people and carry out their duties accordingly.
They observed that the political leaders should not shy away from their responsibilities if they want to earn the trust of the people.
Participating in the public dialogue organized by Manipur People's Party at GM Hall with retired Principal L Sadananda and former member of Human Right Commission Yambem Laba as moderators, Rose Mangshi Haokip pointed out that there is the need to overhaul the entire administrative system in the State.
If the Opposition MLAs perform their duties to the satisfaction of the people, then the people would automatically follow them.
Jagat of Young Lawyers Forum said that instead of challenging the public, it would be wiser on the part of the Government to find out a solution which is acceptable to the people.
Member of Islamic Development Council, Abdul Kalam Azad, lamented that none of the MLAs dared to counter the Chief Minister when he delivered his July 23 statement on the floor of the House, following the killing of Rabina and Sanjit.
Kshetrimayum Shanta of CPM said it is time for the people to join hands in stop ping the trend of fake encounters staged by the security forces and restore peace in the State.
General secretary of State BJP unit Prof Tiken asserted that as the Government cannot negate the photographic evidences of the Khwai ramband Bazar fake encounter produced by Tehelka, it would be honourable for the Chief Minister to step down on moral ground before the public pull him down from his chair.
A responsible Government and Chief Minister should heed to the voice of the people, he added.
Earlier, MLA O Joy of MPP observed that the public have started looking upon all the political leaders with distrust after the misleading statement on the Khwairamband Bazar incident read by the Chief Minister on the floor of the Assembly.
He also demanded to know what the MLAs of Congress party have decided on the public demand for resignation of the Chief Minister on moral ground over the incident.
