Imphal, August 07 2018:
Senior residents of JN Institute of Dental Science took mass casual leave today protesting the recruitment of fresh candidates from outside the State for the post of Assistant Professor for the institute as well as the failure to select anyone from the in-service candidate of the institute itself.
Speaking to media persons, one senior resident of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology JNIMS, Dr T Nimmi said that JNIMS has around 100 senior residents working at various Departments currently, out of which 77 were appointed on a regular basis.
Out of the said 77 senior residents, 35 are eligible for the post of Assistant Professor; Nimmi said and added that these senior residents all have more than five years of experience in their field.
However, during the recently held interview for the posts of 17 Assistant Professors for JN Institute of Dental Sciences, six candidates eligible for the interview were not selected and instead 17 fresh candidates were brought in from outside the State.
The lack of any kind of preference for the inrservice candidates is condemnable, Nimmi added.
Nimmi continued that currently, advertisements have been put up for 25 empty posts of various Departments and expressed suspicion that the situation may turn out similar to the interview process of the institute.
She further alleged that the interview for the post of Asst Prof of JN Institute of Dental Sciences has not been carried out based on qualification or experience.
Demanding the authority concerned to take up necessary steps to select the necessary candidates for the post of Asst Prof from the regular senior residents, Nimmi also urged the authorities to provide a PG seat for the regular senior residents who are aiming for PG courses.
Pointing out that the senior residents are currently in talks with the authority concerned regarding the issues, Nimmi expressed hope that the talks would result in better service protection steps for the senior residents.
