Imphal, January 27 2013 :
Owing to three consecutive State holidays on account of Gaan-Ngai festival, Republic Day celebration and today being a Sunday, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has not made any fuel allocation.
Consequently, the public are likely to be deprived of fuel supply tomorrow.
Dissatisfied over the attitude of the State Government, Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has termed it as an irresponsible act of the Government.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, President of TDC H Ranjit asserted that even if there are State holidays for many days, the Government should arrange every possible means to provide essential commodities to the public, and the office of IOC should be opened for at least some hours in the interest of the public.
Ranjit pointed out that IOC supplies 220 kilo litres of diesel and 90 Kilo litres of petrol to fuel outlets on daily basis.
With no fuel supply, vehicles which are to procure essential goods are also facing problems.
So, the State Government should, under any circumstances, open the office of IOC and do the needful to avoid unwanted consequences later on.
Ranjit also demanded to know why there is scarcity of fuel whenever a bandh or blockade is called or just a day before the bandh or blockade even if there is enough fuel in the supply of the State Government.
He alleged that the State Government has failed to monitor the sale of fuels as well as the quality the fuels being supplied.
There are apprehensions that some of the Government officials are involved in making a big business out of it, he added.
Furthermore, Ranjit pointed out the need to arrange a regular transport contractor along Impahl-Jiri road as done for Imphal-Dimapur road.
