Imphal, May 25 2015 :
Laii, a remote village under Senapati district, is now facing acute shortage of potable water.
Laii village chiefs Kh Zeirai and D Tho in a statement on Monday stated that the water scarcity problem in this village is not seasonal but naturally happening throughout the year.
"Laii has no water source.
We don't get water regularly throughout the year," it said.
The State Government back in 1997 started a Laii Water Supply Scheme which was inaugurated in 2005, the statement said.
But the water source needed by this water supply scheme is located some 15 km away from the village.
"We're using Shaktiman trucks to fetch water from river by going as a far as 5 km," the village chiefs said.
They said the Laii villagers have proposed the State Government to take up a water supply project at the village under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) .
He village chiefs appealed to the Manipur Government to initiate steps to take up the proposed water supply project for the village.
