The Motor Vehicle Department (Directorate of Transport), Government of Manipur has been found issuing driving licenses to non-Manipuris who could hardly drive vehicle for their free movement, Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) has alleged, and demanded the officials of the Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Talking to media in this regard, Sapamcha Jadumani, President of FREINDS said that a non-Manipuri from Bihar, who can hardly drive a vehicle, was found in possession of a driving license issued by the Motor Vehicle Department.
When volunteers of FREINDS pulled up the non-Manipuri identified as Gajendra Yadav, he also also found in possession of a counterfeit currency note, Jadumani said, while parading the non-Manipuri before media persons at the Keishampat office of FREINDS here today.
Sapamacha Jadumani further stated that entry of Non-Manipuris into the State is done through three different points.
One is along Moreh, the other is along Dimapur and the third point of entry is along Jiribam.
There is no check post to regulate the entry of foreigners along Dimapur and Moreh.
Though there is a check post in Jiribam where the entry of foreigners are reportedly checked thoroughly, yet illegal entry of foreigners via waterways or on foot is hardly checked and as such there is the need to open another check post.
Jadumani also recalled the incident wherein around 50 non-Manipuris, who did not posses valid documents, were rounded up by volunteers of FRIENDS, Jiri branch and all of them were subsequently made to go back to their home places.
The non-Manipuri, who was pulled up by volunteers of FRIENDS today, has been in Manipur for the last 20 years.
However, he had no valid documents for staying in Manipur but had already possessed a driving license issued by the Motor Vehicle Department in spite of his inability to drive a vehicle properly, Jadumani said.
The latest incident has come to light amid the hue and cry over the incident of a non-Manipur man found having illicit relationship with as many as 7/8 local women, Jadumani added, while appealing to the people of the State not to rent out their homes to non-Manipuris without proper verification for some monetary gains.
