Imphal, April 25 2011:
Asserting that political parties in the state have started preparing for the election to the Imphal Municipal Council to be held on May 25, Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh today said that he was happy that other political parties are fielding candidates in the election.
The Congress does not wish to emerge victorious without opposition, the Chief Minister said speaking as chief guest at the training programme for Congress workers on the flagship programmes of the party held at the Congress Bhavan today.
He further criticised political parties, particularly BJP of spreading false propaganda against the Congress government and specifically asked what had the BJP done for Manipur.
It was during the BJP's five year rule in the Centre that Manipur got burnt.
The CM was referring to the burning of the state Assembly in the infamous June 18 uprising of 2001 in the wake of the extension of the NSCN-IM-GoI ceasefire without territorial limits.
During the BJP led NDA rule at the Centre for five years, the party had done nothing mentionable for the state.
But, its leaders at the Centre are coming here frequently and then going back to spread propaganda against the Congress,
he said.
Except for the Congress, all other political parties are spreading false propaganda to the people.
The Congress is doing its best for the development of the states in the Northeastern region of the country, he asserted.
Speaking on the training programme, the CM asked party workers to know the flagship programmes being implemented in the state with funds from the Centre.
MPCC president, Gaikhangam said that his party has been organizing the series of training programmes since it has become a must to make aware the people that these programmes are for the welfare of the common people.
He also informed that the same training programmes have also been started in the hill districts too.
The opening function of the training programme was attended by Tourism Minister TN Haokip, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Md Allauddin Khan, MLAs, Y Surchandra, Dr Loken and M Prithviraj who is also the president of the MPCC Youth Front, and officer bearers of the Youth Front.
