Imphal, August 17 2011:
Suspecting foul play with regard to disappearance of one Laimayum Sashikanta alias Kanta of Iroisemba Lourembam Leikai and detention of seven persons, including Sashikanta's wife, Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO) has demanded that police furnish statements of the seven jailed individuals.
Opining that secretary of Khamnam Leirak Meira Paibi Lup contending that an unwell (sick) Sashikanta slipped away and remains untraceable while returning home with six others from an Ukhrul district location is illogical, president M sorojini posed as to how an apparently weak and unwell Sashikanta eluded the sight or strength of five other able-bodied individuals.
It is pertinent to mention that seven persons, including Sashikanta's wife Thoibi have been sent to jail in connection with the disappearances of Sashikanta.
She recounted that on April 20, Sashikanta and five others left home after they were hired by one Khumanthem Khoibi of Sagolband Khamnam Leirak for timber work of one Aleng at Shokvao village in Ukhrul district.
As Sashikanta reportedly felt sick and started to utter incoherently, his five companions were bringing him home on April 23 when Sashikanta disappeared on the way.
When the police picked up Khoibi in connection with the case, Thoibi went to the police station concerned pleading that Khoibi is innocent and had always been looking after the welfare of the Laimayum family, maintained Sorojini.
she also wondered as to why Thoibi or her family members remained silent for about three days despite one of Sashikanta's co-worker conveying information about his disappearance.
Reiterating that statements given by the seven individuals, comprising Sashikanta's co-workers, timber trader Aleng and Khoibi, currently lodged in jail, be made public as the matter is complicated and lacks suspicious, Sorojini cautioned that failure to initiate appropriate positive action will compel the Organisation to launch agitation.
