Imphal, March 07 2019:
DESAM and AIMS have alleged that the number of examination centres where unfair means and practices were witnessed in the ongoing Class X examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) outnumber those examination centres where the examination is conducted properly.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM office today evening, its vice president Nameirakpam Edison produced three individuals before the media including a retired chowkidar of Lamlai High School, who allegedly provided information about the examination to outside sources and also supplied answer notes to the students.
Identifying the individuals as Irungbam Lokhon of Pungdongbam (retired chowkidar of Lamlai Higher Secondary School), Wangkhem Sanahal of Kairang Awang Leikai and Mayanglambam Ningthem of Kameng Kakching (both guardians of students appearing in the examination), N Edison said that today, volunteers of DESAM and AIMS, visited 11 examination centres to check any kind of unfair practices.
During the visit, 4 examination centres, Langmeidong Aided Girls High School, Martin Grammar English School Kakching, Wangkhei High School and Nongpok Maheikol, were found holding the examination in a proper and peaceful manner, under the strict vigil of teachers and invigilators on examination duty.
The student bodies thanked the teachers and invigilators of the said examination centres for their sincere effort in conducting proper examination in the said centres.
On the other hand, in case of the remaining 7 other examination centres which the volunteers of DESAM and AIMS visited, use of unfair means in the examination was witnessed and the volunteers even found some teachers and invigilators encouraging the student to use such unfair means by providing answer notes, he claimed.
During their visit, the volunteers found carbon copies of answer notes in the examination centre at Langmeidong High School and Poreikhongjin High School.
Edison continued that the worst conditions were found at Lamlai Higher Secondary School where the students of Emanuel English Academy, Chingtam English School and Internal Spring English were allotted the examination centre.
In the said examination centre, the surrounding of the school campus was found littered with a large number of people trying to supply answer notes to the students sitting in the exam halls and it was also found that some of them were communicating through mobile phones with those who are on duty at the examination centre, Edison alleged.
He then said that three individuals were pulled up by DESAM and AIMS volunteers for allegedly supplying answer notes to the students.
Among them, one is a retired chowkidar of Lamlai English School, who is still being kept on duty by giving some form of honorarium by the school authority due to the failure to Government to appoint a regular chowkidar till date, he lamented.
It is very surprising to find the teachers on examination duty, invigilators and OCs using mobile phones inside the examination hall, which is totally against rule of the examination, he added.
