Decrying alleged failure of the State Government to arrest the killer/s of DK Moshilpha alias James Maring of Leiching Minou, who was found brutally murdered on July 3, a mass sit-in-protest demonstration was held at Chandel district headquarters today.
The protest demonstration was organized by Chandel Naga People Organization (CNPO) in collaboration with the Joint Action Committee formed against killing, NCAC, NWUC, Tribe Hohos, Leiching Minou Village Authorities and the Chiefs of surrounding villages.
The protestors demanded the Government to arrest and punishment of the killer/s of DK Moshipha in accordance to the law of the land, provide ex-gratia to the bereaved family in accordance to the customary law of the Maring Naga Tribe as well as a suitable Govt job to the next of kin of the deceased and hand over the investigation of the case to Chandel SP from Thoubal SP.
Speaking on the occasion, L Givson, one of the Members of JAC expressed strong disappointment over the alleged failure of the State Govt to fulfil the charter of demands submitted earlier by the JAC and threatened to intensify stir with the support of various organizations.
He also informed that another sit-in- protest will be staged at Kakching Lamkhai tomorrow and it would be followed by various intense forms of agitation.
General Secretary of Naga Women Union, Chandel (NWUC) L Bliss condemned the alleged incapability of the State Government to identify the culprit involved in the killing even after arresting some of the suspects.
She also questioned why the State Govt had released the arrested suspects without making the reasons known to the public and said that NWUC will continue to support the agitations until all the demands of the JAC are met.
NCAC Joint Secretary Loveson demanded that the case be shifted Thoubal SP to the SP of Chandel and pointed out that the incident of killing took place in Chandel district and not in Thoubal district.
General Secretary of NCAC BD Betha asserted that the Govt.of Manipur has done nothing in response to the Charter of demands submitted to CM Ibobi by Joint Action Committee against killing of DK Moshilpha Maring.
Taking serious note over the matter, CNPO convened a public meeting on July 28 during which it was strongly opposed to the handling of the case by Thoubal Police.
However, the Govt has refused to transfer the case from Thoubal to Chandel, which is unconstitutional, Betha maintained.
He also demanded resignation of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gaikhangam for his inability to solve the case.
Today's sit-in-protest demonstration was also supported and participated by President and colleagues of Naga Chiefs' Association Chandel, General Secretary and colleagues of Naga Women Union Chandel, General Secretary of Anal Naga Tangpi, Leiching Minou village authorities and chiefs of the surrounding villages.
