MPCC observes Birth Anniversary of Bir Tikendrajit

The 156th Birth Anniversary of freedom fighter Bir Tikendrajit was observed under the aegis of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan here today.
The occasion was marked by offering of floral tributes to the photograph of Bir Tikendrajit.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led the others including the Deputy Chief Minister Gakhangam, MLAs and Congress workers in paying respect to the departed freedom fighter.
With exception to MLAs, MK Preshow Simray of Chingai A/C; T Mangibabu of Thanga A/C and A Bira of Kumbi A/C, none of other Congress Ministers and MLAs were present on the occasion on spite of the formal invitations reportedly send to all the concerned Ministers and MLAs by MPCC.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy CM Gaikhangam, who is also the President of MPCC, informed two freedom fighters from Manipur-Bir Tikendrajit and Rani Gaidinliu - have been selected by AICC to honour them in connection with the 127th anniversary of Indian National Congress.
Two freedom fighters each from every state of India has been selected by AICC to pay respect to the late freedom fighters by the respective state Congress parties.

Both Bir Tikendrajit and Rani Gaidinliu fought against the British to safeguard Manipur, he said and added Gaidinliu was imprisoned for 14 years in jail for being repellent against the British.
MPCC observes the birth anniversary of Tikendrajit to pay homage to him, Gaikhangam said, adding birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinlung will also be observed by MPCC in January next year.
Gaikhangam went on to say that the supreme sacrifices that the freedom fighters have made for the sake of their motherland and the spirit with which they had served their motherland needs to be followed by the present generation so as to bring about the required changes in the State.
