Imphal, May 25 2010:
Veteran leader of the Kuki community and a well known personality in political circle, former MLA from Tengnoupal Constituency, Paokhohang Haokip, popularly known as PK passed away today at about 6.10 pm at RIMS following a protracted illness.
He was 87 and is survived by his wife, one son and six daughters.
The funeral service of the former MLA will be held tomorrow at his MG Avenue residence at 11 am.
During his lifetime, Haokip donned many a hat and after graduating from St Edmund's College, Shillong, he founded the Haokip Students' Organisation serving as its president and Advisor body as well.

In 1957-62, he was elected as a member of the territorial council of Manipur from Tengnoupal TC and became the Vice President of Manipur State Congress Committee and member secretary of the CLP.
In 1967, he was elected again from Tengnoupal Constituency.
The late man also penned some books in Thadou dialect titled Khanglui-Khangthah Lakoila in 1997 as well as Thusim thum : Ahsijolneng Gallngam in 2007 in Thadou dialect etc.
For his contribution to Thadou literature he was crowned with the title, 'Writer of Year Award' in 2007 by the Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti.
