Death of student at Chennai sends shockwaves in state

Imphal, June 23 2011:
There was widespread shock and apprehension of foul play over the death of a young student from Manipur in Chennai today.
Okram Laba (19) son of Indramani of Yaiskul Yumnam Leikai a second year student of BCA, Hindustan college of arts and science, Chennai was reported dead today at his room by his College Principal to his family members.
An UNI report quoting sources said that the student left home a week ago with a draft of ' 75,000.Family sources said foul play.
Sources added that the boy's face was covered with a plastic and a belt was found on his neck.
An FIR has been lodged by the Principal of the Institute in this regard, it added.
Family members here informed that Laba was found dead in his hostel room around 3.45 pm.
They were informed over phone by a person who identified himself to be the vice-principal of Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Tamil Nadu.
Family members further said that a student from Kerala was the roommate of Laba and he had no problem with all his friends.
He had even called up last night and talked to his parents.
He was totally normal, a family member said.
Family members said Laba along with some of his friends had a fight with local boys three days back but they are yet to confirm it.
