Imphal, September 11 2021:
The cease work strike launched by the JAC of Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL), Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL), Manipur Electricity Employees' Union (MEEU) and MSPDCL Officers' Association (MOA) in pursuance of the demand for implementation of 7th ROP 2019 has been suspended with immediate effect.
The development has come after the striking employees and the commissioner (power) held a talk late Friday night wherein an understanding was reached on certain points, JAC convener Shyamnagar said during a press conference held at Keishampat Powerhouse on Saturday.
According to Shyamnagar, during the talk, the government side conveyed that the meeting of the state cabinet held on September 4 had approved the 7th ROP 2019 for electricity employees but the ongoing agitation will not be called off as the 7th ROP 2019 is yet to be implemented.
The JAC will resume the strike from September 20 if the government fails to take positive measures, he asserted while appealing to the people to forgive the JAC for causing inconvenience during the strike.
He said that closure of pre-paid counters and maintenance of electricity have been relaxed in public interest.
JAC co-convener Soram Sunnyboy also said that electricity employees will stage sit-in-protest at different places including at Keishampat junction till September 20 if the government does not take positive action despite reaching an understanding on certain points.
Intense forms of agitation will continue if the government fails to translate into action the commitment given during the Friday's talk, he cautioned.
