Efforts on to improve BSNL service in Manipur: J Lunkim

Manipur Telecom General Manager has said BSNL service in the State will be improved soon as a lot of efforts are being made now.
A 'BSNL Week' programme will be held from October 11 to raise public awareness on Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) service, Manipur Telecom General Manager J Lunkim told a press meet at the Telephone Bhavan conference hall, Imphal on Tuesday.
"We're putting a lot of efforts to improve BSNL service in Manipur.
We also need public support to achieve it," Lunkim said.
He said there are 18,000 BSNL landline subscribers in the State as of now while the total number of prepaid and postpaid subscribers of mobile phones has crossed 2.5 lakh.
Lunkim said subscribers will get free call service from 9 pm to 7 am soon and this facility will be given to CDMA phones too.
But for mobile, this benefit is yet to be considered, he added.
The BSNL is trying to increase the number of mobile phone towers and to install different new technologies to elevate the service, the telecom general manager informed.
Optical fibers are being laid in different parts of the State and that the BSNL is also working towards picking up the internet service, Lunkim further informed the press meet.
BSNL Imphal AD (Marketing) Govind said now there are 201 BSNL 2G mobile towers in Manipur, apart from this there are 307 for BTS and 106 for 3G services.
A total of 67 additional mobile towers are being installed, besides more new equipments are to be put in to boost the function and service of BSNL, he said.
