Under the banner "Explore Manipur", a five-day photography contest cum exhibition would be held from October 28 under the aegis of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, IPR Director Somorjit Salam said that the contest cum exhibition is being organised with the primary objective of promoting photojournalism.
The first ever photography contest cum exhibition would be based on four themes vis; 'Unity in diversity (culture, religion and people of Manipur)', 'Manipur marches ahead', 'Environment, ecology and eco-tourism of Manipur' and 'Candids from the streets of Manipur' .
Photographers who win first, second and third positions in any of the four themes would given cash award of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively apart from certificates.
There are 10 consolation prizes for each theme.
In another, DIPR has been planning to spend Rs 2.2 lakh in 52 prizes, Somorjit said.
For print media, State journalist awards are given every year but there are no awards for photography.
It is with a view to make up this deficit and at the same time promote photojournalism that the photography contest cum exhibition is being planned, he continued.
As a part of the contest cum exhibition, a three-day photography workshop would also be held where well known photojournalists based outside the State would be invited.
For the photography contest cum exhibition which would be held at DIPR office inside MSRTC complex, Moirangkhom, details can be obtained from the DIPR office.
The last date for submission of photographs is October 20 and the contest is open to everyone, Somorjit added.
