Youth convention begins

A two-day State level youth convention under the theme 'Role of youth in socioeconomic development' has begun today at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal.
The inaugural function was graced by Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla and High Court Justice N Kotiswor Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said it is significant and appropriate that the youth convention is being organized and expressed hope that the convention will deliberate the role of youth in bringing about socio-eco-nomic development in the State.
She further said that youth in India comprises 27.5% of the total population.
"Youth if properly trained is an asset for the country but if not, can create multifarious problems," the Governor said.
Similar programme should be also organized at different parts of the State to infuse the of love, peace, compassion, hard work and commitment among the youth," she said.
The Governor also stated that State Government has already framed Manipur State Youth Policy from 2011 in which important objectives were highlighted to foster a spirit of National consciousness, fight against all forms of substance abuse, provide proper educational training opportunity to equip the youth with working skills for employment and self-employment opportunities including financial assistance.
Justice N Kotiswor Singh said, "It is important for students to know the basic fundamental law of the land.
Students should be familiar with the Constitution of India and understand the rule of law which implies respecting the democratic institution" .
Kotiswor further said that Manipur State Legal Services Authority provides free and competent legal service to the weaker sections of the society to ensure justice, free legal advice, free counselling and preparation of legal documents.
The convention is organized by Service Bridge Agency in collaboration with Manipur Legal Service Authority.
During the convention, eminent lawyers and experts would attend as resource persons.
Various topic relating to legal aids, cyber crime, importance of voluntary blood donation & blood bank, adolescents, earthquake resistant structure & seismic retrofitting, youth & law, depression and its impact on youth, entrepreneurship skill development, self employment, financial and digital literacy programme, youth policy and law will be discussed.
