Imphal, April 30 2011:
The dead body of Salam Bono alias Sanjoy is still lying unclaimed at RIMS morgue as family refused to accept it dissatisfied with the clarification made by the troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry.
Relating the incident of death of Bono alias Sanjoy son of Salam Kamani of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, the 12 Maratha Li alleged that he died of "overdose of drug", in a statement dispatched by the PRO, IGAR(S) .
In the morning of Friday, mother of Salam Sanjoy and Kavita Devi had contacted the Security Forces post at Patsoi, stating that her son who was a KYKL deserter had arrived from Nagaland during the night and requested that he be taken for surrender to a safe place due to fear of UGs.
Salam Sanjoy reached Patsoi Post at around 11 am.
After taking his lunch at 1 pm while he was resting it was noticed at 2.30 pm that he was frothing at the mouth and nose and was unconscious.
Bono was immediately rushed to RIMS hospital as there was no doctor available at the post and was declared brought in dead at 3 pm, the statement said.
It claimed that doctors who attended on him also found SP-capsule and Nitrosun tablets in his pocket.
The dead body of the individual has been sent for postmortem which will bring out the cause of his death, the statement added.
It was in pursuance of the efforts by the Security Forces to rehabilitate misguided youth that Salam Sanjoy was being accepted for surrender on insistence from his parents and locals, it added.
Meanwhile, a public held at the locality of the deceased today discussed about the death of Bono.
Recalling the circumstances leading to the death of her son, the mother of Bono, Sushilla, decried the claim made by the 12 Maratha Li and demanded appropriate action against the Maratha Li and Ninthoujam Kabita, the president of the BSP state unit.
About the handing over of her son to the Army, Sushila said that around three month back from today, troops of 12 Maratha Li visited her house for searching of Bono.
When they could not find Bono, they picked his elder brother Boy.
Sushilla contacted with Kabita to help in securing her son (Boy)'s release.
Accordingly Kabita contacted the Maratha Li who asked to produce Bono and surrender to them.
As per an understanding reached in this regard, Bono was called from Nagaland where he was working and handed over to the Maratha Li, she added.
