Minister Ratankumar inspects proposed sites for jetties at Loktak

While travelling on a motor boat, Works and Transport Minister Kh Ratankumar today visited the proposed sites where jetties are to be constructed at Loktak Lake under the Inland Water Transport Project.
The proposed sites for the construction of jetties are located at Takmu, Thanga, Toupokpi, Ningthoukhong, Toubul, Mayang Imphal, Phoubakchao, Komlakhong, Sendra and Phubala.
The Minister and his team started their journey after inspecting the Water Sports Complex at Komlakhong in Mayang Imphal, where the National Canoe Sprint Championship 2012-13 would be conducted, in four motor boats and proceeded till Thanga.
The team also visited Takmu water Sports Complex and presented track pants to the players who are undergoing training at present.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection visit, Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar stated that 80% of the construction process of the gallery of Water Sports Complex at Komlakhong has been completed.
It would be finished before commencement of the National Canoe Sprint Championship 2012-13, where around 30-40 teams from across the country are expecting to take part.
All their lodging places have been constructed and 10 low floor Buses have been arranged for the transportation of the participants.
The Minister informed that with completion of the jetties, people settling along Loktak Lake would have better communication facilities, and it would benefit them economically.
At the same time it will also boost tourism in the area.
During the inspection, Minister Ratankumar was accompanied by MLA M Prithviraj; Transport Director, Additional Director, IGP, Officials of LDA, Tourism Director, Commissioner, President of All Manipur Cannoning and Kayaking and other office bearers of the association.
