Imphal, November 28 2011:
Manipur police used to be despised by the people at one time.
But today, it is recognized as one of the most disciplined forces even by the Union Ministry of Home and the neighbouring states have also taken note of it, Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur Yumnam Joykumar has stated.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of the office building of Sub-Dvisional Police Officer (SDPO), Kakching constructed by MPHC under the Police Modernisation Scheme within the complex of Kakching PS today.
The DGP further said that at one time, the strength of Manipur Police was very weak and the number of police personnel posted in one police station was not more than 14/15 perconnel.
But over the last 4/5 years, the strength of the state police has increased manifold and police outposts have been set up in all places where even security personnel used to be apprehensive of going.
Moreover, the number of personnel posted in each police station has been increased to 58 and units of the police commandos have been opened in all the police stations.
All these developments have minimized subversive activities of UGs, the police officer contended, while seeking the co-operation and support of the people to the police.
In response to a memorandum submitted to him from the side of Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organsiation, the DGP assured that construction of barrack for women police personnel attached with Kakching police station and the office as well as quarters of Additional SP (Law & Order) would be started within the current year itself, if necessary land is available.
Chairperson of Kakching Municipal Council M Enakkhunbi presided over today's function.
