Imphal, April 26 2012:
Anal Naga Taangpi, Anal Lenrul Taangpi and 42 Assam Rifles jointly organised a day-long workshop on 'Chandel district development action plan and climate change' at AC Institute, Lambung in Chandel district today.
The inaugural function of the workshop was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Chandel district Th Chitaranjan as Chief Guest and Commandant of 42 Assam Rifles Col Manish Sinha as President.
Speaking at the occasion, Chitaranjan observed that developmental pace in Manipur has been hampered due to lack of proper planning.
It is the resultant of such lack of proper planning that we have today witnessed drastic change in the climatic condition.
Just as Tamenglong district, which was once considered one of the most backward districts in the state, has moved forward through proper planning, there is the need for proper development of the existing tourist spots in different parts of Chandel district, he noted.
The Deputy Commissioner went on to inform the gathering that after the task of power decentralization, the onus of taking up developmental works in the hill districts including Chandel district have been entrusted upon the respective District Councils.
Acknowledging deplorable condition of the 18 km-long road stretch from Pallel to Chandel district headquarters, the head of the district administration maintained that after the road maintenance task was entrusted to BRO from PWD, the process for road development work has become time consuming, thereby subjecting the people to lot of inconveniences.
Nonetheless, contact would be established with BRO officials so as to exert pressure for speedy execution of the road development works, the Deputy Commissioner assured.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner assured that attention would be given to mitigate the difficulties being faced by the people with regard to health care delivery system, banking and tele-communication facilities.
On the sideline of the workshop, people of Chandel district submitted memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner highlighting various problems being faced by them.
