Tamenglong meet stresses safeguard of women

A programme on 'documentation on human rights violation and advocacy and meeting on violence against women' was conducted from September 6 to 7 at Shekinuh Inn, Tamenglong district headquarters organized by Naga Women's Union (NWU), Indigenous Women and Children Foundation (IWCF), Women Development Organization (WDO) and Indigenous Women Forum North East India (IWFNEI).
Women from different villages attended the programme.
The main discussion of the training and meeting included understanding the importance of documentation and advocacy and customary practices of Zeliangrong in addressing "Violence against Women and Land Alienation".
Following the discussion, the meeting recommended having more such awareness programmes and to review, add and rectify more traditional laws to safeguard the women and land on customary law.
The meeting also recommended to empower women economically and in the decision making mechanism and also to document on customary laws and practices and on land alienation.
