10th Mera Meepham held

Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) has organised its " 10th Mera Meepham^(annual conference on Umanglai Haraoba) at Maharaja Chandrakriti Auditorium, Palace Compound, Imphal today.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Yumnam Khemchand Singh, retired Principal and Chairman, Lailup & Organising Committee Professor Ng Kangjiya Mangang, former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam, president UKAL Chanam Nabachandra, Principal Slopeland Public School Khongjom N Babulin Meitei and Director cum Principal Keinahal Memorial English School, Langmeidong H Jiten Singh attended the event as presidium members.
As a part of the annual meeting, a book titled "Umanglai" was released by the dignitaries.
Maiba, Maibi along with members of various Umanglai committee were honoured at the event.
Speaking at the event, Speaker Y Khemchand lauded the UKAL for its efforts in promoting and preserving Umanglai Haraoba (celebration/worship of sylvan deities) .
Saying that Umanglai Haraoba occupies an important and large sphere of Manipur's history and culture, he urged UKAL and people to facilitate participation of all communities in the celebration (Umanglai haraoba).
Inclusive participation of the communities will strengthen unity and reinforced trust, he said.
"People all over the world know Manipur for its unique cultural & traditional dances.
If one wishes to know the origin of the dance forms and origin and identity of the Manipuris, he/she has to study and observe Umanglai haraoba," he said and urged the UKAL and people to adhere to the original form of the haraoba to preserve the relic celebration.
Assistant Professor of Department of Umanglai Haraoba, Manipur University of Culture, Dr Thounaojam Ruhichandra stressed the meaning and significance of Umanglai Haraoba at the event.
