CM stresses on saving lives, vaccination of all

While appealing to all the eligible people to come forward and get inoculated against Covid-19 at the numerous vaccination sites set up by the government in collaboration with elected people's representatives, chief minister N Biren said that the utmost priority of the government is to save precious lives from the on-going pandemic.
Speaking to newspersons during inspection of construction of the Nongpok-thong (Eastern Gate) of Kangla Fort on Monday, Biren maintained that the government has started the mass vaccination programme for all eligible persons in every constituency with the support of elected members such as MLAs, Pradhans, Zilla Parishads, etc.
He also appealed to the people to come forward and get vaccinated saying it is the only means to protect and prevent from the infectious disease, and sought public's cooperation and support to the mass vaccination drive.
The CM pointed out that each everybody has equal responsibility in the fight against COVID-19 disease.
At such critical times, one should know their responsibility and refrain from unreasonable arguments, he said while urging the people to take all necessary precautions, preventive measures and COVID Appropriate Behaviour to overcome the disease.
On the construction of Nongpok-thong, the CM said: "We have a belief that there will be a feeling of oneness, peace, harmony and prosperity in the state when we open the Nongpok-thong (Eastern Gate) of Kangla Fort.
The government decided to construct Nongpok-thong after extensive consultations with historians, experts, etc, he added.
He also informed that the government has set a target of completing the construction of Nongpok-thong, footpath and recreational park and dedicate the same to the people by October this year.
Among others, the CM was accompanied by CAF&PD minister Th Satyabrata, PDA chairman T Robindro Singh, MP (Rajya Sabha) Maharaja Leisemba Sanajaoba, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, DGP LM Khaute and top ranking officials.
The CM, who also assessed the ongoing mass vaccination programme held Monday at Luwangshangbam Makha Leikai community hall, said that the high number of Covid-19 positive cases and deaths during the second wave is due to low vaccination rate.
Biren said that if everyone was to get vaccinated, then the third wave of the pandemic will be easier to handle.
The mass vaccination programme is being organised by Heingang BJP Mandal in collaboration with Luwangshangbam COVID Task Force and NISU Club.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection visit, Biren vowed to ensure 100 per cent vaccination rate in his home village within the next 2-3 days.
After this, 100 per cent of Heingang AC will be vaccinated in 2-3 days.
He then urged the ministers/MLAs and representatives of local bodies to extend their assistance and motivate the people so that everyone would get vaccinated.
"It is the responsibility of the government to save the lives of people.
If every eligible beneficiary was to get vaccinated, the state would be able to face the impending third wave of the pandemic.
This is not mere lip service, but the real advice of experts", the CM said and appealed to all concerned to get vaccinated and prevent the onslaught of the third wave.
Biren then said that vaccination drives are being carried out across the state after multiple meetings with DCs and CMOs of districts.
Presently, the state has over 1 lakh vaccines in stock, he informed, while adding that central government will provide more vaccines if needed.
In all, 300 people were vaccinated during the mass vaccination programme.
