Drive to save migratory birds

Bishnupur, November 27 2017:
As a continuous effort of the Bishnupur District Forest Department to stop illegal poaching of migratory birds visiting Loktak Lake, the department, under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer, Debala Laiphrakpam, conducted a massive drive to recover traps and bird nets today .
The drive was led by Range Forest Officer L Babuyai Singh with volunteers of Pole Star Guardian Association and IBCL at Thingunei, Phubala, Sunusiphai, Naranseina, Thamnapokpi and in and around Moirang .

Hunting, poaching of birds in the lake posses a serious threat which results in the declining number of migratory birds from continents .
The Forest department aims at promoting Loktak lake as a friendly home for these migratory birds and has appealed all people to offer protection to these visiting birds instead of hunting them .
The department will continue such drive in other parts of the district.
