Ex-SAI coach charged

Special Court POCSO Imphal West, today, framed charges against former athletic coach of SAI sports training centre, Takyelpat and fixed December 22 for the trial and recording the statement of the prosecution witness .
The accused, Okram Chaoba, was present along with his counsel for the charge hearing after the IO of Women police station, Imphal West, submitted the charge sheet after the investigation of the alleged sexual assault case of five girls by the accused in the year 2014 .
The Court perused all the materials on record and the statement of all the five alleged victims and finding sufficient material, framed charges against the accused and fixed December 22 for the hearing of the prosecution witness .
It may be mentioned that five girls of SAI lodged a complaint to the Director, SAI North East region and the authority concerned of SAI sports training centre in July 2014, alleging that they were sexually assaulted by their male coach .
Two of the victims had alleged that the accused, Okram Chaoba, asked them to remove their shirt while measuring their body weight.
They also alleged that Chaoba commented on their bodies and tried to embrace them as well .
One girl was allegedly forced to measure her weight wearing only her undergarments inside a gymnasium and Chaoba had reportedly asked the girl not to tell anyone about the incident .
A departmental enquiry was carried out at the time and the accused coach was suspended .
Chaoba was arrested by Women police station Imphal West in connection with the incident and was remanded to judicial custody by an order of the Court on August 8, 2014 .
