Drugs pouring into State to spoil people: Deputy CM

Without mentioning who are the hands behind it, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today remarked that drugs have been sending and pouring in to the State with an aim to spoil the life of the people and make them paralytics.
Gaikhangam was attending the observance function of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking organized jointly by All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) and Manipur Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) at Iboyaima Shumang Lila Shanglen, Palace Compound here.
The observance was held under the theme of "Make Health your New Height in Life, Not Drugs: Self-Realization, Self-Responsibility, Self-Protection against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" .

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, the Deputy CM said that drugs and alcohol have always killed many lives, and that drugs have been sending and pouring in to the State with an aim to spoil the life of the people and make them paralytics.
He said the adults used alcohol as a good medicine in the past, but the present generation has begun to supplement it as daily food item and it has become a culture of the people to have drink in every religious ceremony and social occasion in the State.
"This is really unfortunate," he added.
Maintaining that abuse of drug spoils one's health and at the same time it ruins the society, Gaikhangam called on everyone to keep aloof from drug as far as possible.
The future of a society is unpredictable in the event of its youth got addicted to drugs, he said.
He suggested that the responsibility for controlling and preventing substances should not be entirely left with the Government because it should be begun from every home and locality.
Referring to mob justice, Gaikhangam appealed to the people not to indulge in such illegal acts, and pointed out that whole family must not be punished for the crime committed by one person.
As to fake encounter incidents in the State, the Deputy CM claimed that incidence of fake encounter cases has drastically come down in the State now, and assured that police personnel who violate the laws will have to be punished.
MLAs RK Anand, N Biren and M Padmini Devi, president of AMADA Mayai Loishang and Ph Gunachandra, president of Manipur State Shumang Lila Council were also present on the occasion as presidium members.
As part of the observance, a public rally participated by about 700 people was taken out in Imphal city area.
Sanaleibak Nachom Artistes' Association (SNAA) also staged a Shumang Lila "Mangluraba Lan" to mark the occasion.
AMADA conferred its Marvel Award 2014 to SNAA during the function.
The award carries a cash reward of Rs 5,000, a memento and a certificate.
Manipur Drug Users' Forum (MDUF) also held a spot campaign on stopping violation of rights of drug users with a slogan "support, don't punish" in North AOC area to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today.
