Traffic Lok Adalat resolves 590 cases of traffic offences

Imphal, April 21 2018:
As part of the month-long celebration of the 5th anniversary of the establishment of High Court of Manipur, a mobile Traffic Lok Adalat was organised today at various places of Imphal East and Imphal West districts, including Kwakeithel, Patsoi, Heirangoithong, GM Hall, Kongba Bazar, Khabeisoi and Mantripukhri area by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in association with Superintendent of Police, Imphal West and Imphal East, SP, Traffic Control Police Wing, Imphal and Transport Department.
The traffic drive was mainly concentrated on private noncommercial vehicles to ensure that laws relating to use of helmets, wearing of seat belts, use of mobile phone while driving, drunken driving, driving without valid licence, valid RC book, were complied with by the public to ensure road safety and also to spread awareness on traffic rules and regulations.
A total of 590 cases of traffic offences were settled generating a total amount of Rs 96,290 as fine.
In the Traffic Lok Adalat, Commendation Certificate along with a gift was presented to 71 people who were found complying with the Motor Vehicle Act and Rules.
Pamphlets containing traffic rules and regulations were also distributed amongst the general public to generate public awareness.
As part of the traffic awareness programme, skit plays based on traffic rules and regulations were also performed by "Nokphade" team in front of GP Women's College, Nongmeibung and Lamlong area.
MASLSA maintained that media play a valuable role in spreading information, awareness and attracting people to settle their disputes through Lok Adalat and the same is highly appreciated.
It expressed hope that media would continue to render such services in future also.
It earnestly appealed to all the general public to abide by the traffic rules and regulations in the interest of their own safety as well as the general public.
MASLSA thanked all the Chairpersons of various Traffic Adalat Benches consisting of Judicial Officers, Ld Advocates, staff, Para Legal Volunteers and the officials of Police, Traffic, Motor Vehicle Departments for their valuable time and contribution in successfully holding the mobile Traffic Lok Adalat.
