Tamenglong, April 21 2018:
Commanding Officer of 23 Assam Rifles, Tamenglong Chinmaya Verma launched an ambitious ambulance project for the downtrodden citizens of Tousem Sub-division of Tamenglong district today at Shekinuh Inn, Tamenglong HQs.
This is a voluntary project initiated by a non-profit voluntary organization called Society for Enhancing Tamenglong (SET) with an understanding with the Tousem Area Students' Organization (TASO) .
The project was initiated following the grievances of the people of Tousem area, where women and children often face unfortunate fate either on the way or at the hospital owing to the absence of ambulance and the patients are often carried on a bamboo stretcher to Tamenglong district hospital or to Jiribam for treatment.
Many pregnant women have either died or gave birth on the way to hospital.
In consultation with the TASO and villagers of the Tousem Sub-division, SET took up a project to provide at least two ambulance to the people of the sub-division by collecting funds from willing donors and officers as well as the people's representatives.
A voluntary organization formed on the trust of people and even engaged in the blacktopping work along Tamenglong Bazar road in early 2017, SET believed that there are many citizens who are willing to help the downtrodden folks of these villages.
The launching program was attended by leaders from various organizations, Church leaders and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the program Rev Namreikeu Pame, Pastor of Zeme Naga Baptist Church highlighted the plights of Tousem area villagers while Tapuang Newme, joint secretary of TASO asserted that a person of Tousem area has to wait to get sick only when a doctor is available while adding that the most difficult times faced by the people is during monsoon.
He expressed his gratitude to SET for initiating such a benevolent project and expressed hope that the regime of 'bamboo stretcher' will be replaced by the two ambulance.
Chief Guest Chinmaya Verma also praised SET for being a facilitator of such project to help the neglected people of the area.
