Aggrieved CAF & PD laborers storm CM bungalow

Demanding allocation of work in FCI godown, payment of wages fixed by the government and effective implementation of Labor Law; the aggrieved members of Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution (CAF & PD) Laborers' Welfare Association took out a protest rally and stormed the Chief Minister's bungalow here today.
The rally started from Keishampat Yumjao Lairembi Community Hall and passed through Kangla Pat before storming the CM's bungalow.
However, the protesters were stopped by heavily guarded security personnel at the entrance of the CM's bungalow.
After a heated confrontation for a while, the protesters were forced to retreat up to Nupi Lal complex.
Later, some leaders of the Association were allowed to enter the CM's bungalow where they submitted a memorandum.

In the memorandum, the Association demanded allocation of works to laborers who have been replaced by other hired laborers at the earliest; payment of wage at the rate fixed by the government recently; implementation of Labor Law of Labor Department and several others.
Before the protest rally, the aggrieved members also staged a sit-in-protest at Keishampat Yumjao Lairembi Community Hall here during which placards inscribed with slogans like 'Let the laborers work', 'Do not discriminate the laborers who have been working in the FCI godown since the last many years', 'Implement Industrial Dispute Act', 'Do not snatch livelihood of the laborers' etc were used.
Speaking to media persons, Romendrajit, general secretary of CAF & PD Laborers' Welfare Association said that the government had fixed the rate of carrying one Quintal of rice bag for FCI godown at Rs 6-7.50 per labor but a newly appointed contractor in FCI godown told them that the fixed rate will not be applicable to which the laborers objected.
