Drivers' Day observed

As in other parts of the State, the Drivers' Day was also observed at Jiribam today.
The 24th Drivers' Day, organised by All Jiribam Road Transport Driver's Union (AJRTDU), was observed at Jiribam Municipal Council's Community Centre in Babupara.
Attending the event as chief guest, Jiribam MLA Md Ashab Uddin lauded the drivers for their services and dedication toward the society and said that they should follow the safety instructions and rules on road.
Advising the drivers to follow traffic rules and drive safe for the safety of their cargo and human lives, the MLA said that there is need for spreading awareness on safe driving.
Stressing that the drivers should be given the respect they deserve, as they toil day and night throughout seasons to transport people and deliver essential commodities people need, he said drivers' should be provided with social security and safety on road.AJRTDU Jiribam president M Tombabu Singh, Addl SP (L&O) Jiribam H Basulal Singh, advisor AJRTDU H Joykumar Singh, president AJMP S Sushila Devi and WASED Jiribam president N Nivarani Devi attended the observance as presidium members.
Drivers plying the Jiri-Imphal NH 37 were encouraged and feted with gifts including shirts at the event.
