Imphal, May 12 2018:
Reacting to a 'misleading and biased' statement of the 'Liangmai Naga Council published in some local dailies on the May 5 dubbing Athuan Abonmai, president of the Zeliangrong Baudi Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AMN) as black sheep and a person a stray from his native village', the Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur has clarified that Athuan Abonmai is a 'democratically elected president' of the Zeliangrong Baudi Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AMN) by an electoral college comprising of State units of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AMN) and its constituent units.
"Liangmai Naga Council is not a constituent units of the Zeliangrong Baudi.
Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) including State units and Zonal units have been functioning under its own written constitution.
Here, we don't recognise or affiliate Zeme council, Liangmai Council and Rongmei council separately.
Besides, none of the functionary of the ZB (AMN) State units and Zonal unit is recommended or nominated by the said council'.
The statement of Liangmai Naga Council is a bolt from the blue," said the statement of the ZB today.
'ZB (AMN) is a constituent unit of the Naga Hoho which is the apex civil society of the entire Naga people where ZB is representing the Zeliangrong people.
Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur is also the constituent unit of the United Naga Council (UNC) representing the Zeliangrong people of Manipur.
Therefore, Athuan Abonmai, president ZB (AMN) is our leader and he has the mandate to lead the Zeliangrong people and the people are also with him.
The allegation of the so Liangmai Naga Council is baseless and uncalled for' the statement of the ZB said.
