DFW office, Thoubal gutted in fire

The District Family Welfare Office of Thoubal district located inside the complex of District Hospital at Khangabok was gutted in a devastating fire which broke out at around 12.20 pm today.
Total assets worth around Rs 1 crore including furniture, service books and immunisation materials, 15 Iron almirahs, eight Freezers, eight Iron Beds, one 2000kv power generator, two computer sets and two dry freezers have been reportedly destroyed in the fire.
Official source said that there were none in the office today since it was a holiday on account of Second Saturday when the fire broke out.
The fire was detected by the people of the surrounding area when they saw smoke rising from the campus.
Soon the Fire Service was informed and three Fire Tenders pressed into action to douse the fire.
It took more than one hour for the three fire tenders bring the fire under control.
Although there is no official report on the source of the fire, it is suspected that the fire may have been ignited by from a faulty electric short circuit.
According to CMO Thoubal District, Dr Kh Radheshyam, the fire may have been caused due to an electric short circuit since eight Ice Line Refrigerators were active for storing medical supplies for immunisations.
