Imphal, September 08 2018:
A Liangmai dialect translation of Dr Kamal's famed novel "Madhavi" was released today at Liangmai Baptist Church Imphal, Dewlaland today.
The novel Madhavi, translated in Liangmai dialect by Kyzanliu Newmai and 'Tahlung' by Kentaliu Newmai were released by Awangbou Newmai, MLA 52 AC Tamei, at the function.
Speaking at the event, Awangbou Newmai lauded the works of translation and said that the books (Madhavi and Tahlung) will bridge the gap between older and younger generations in the Liangmai society and between the communities of the State.
The population of Liangmai people in the State is around 70-80 thousand, Newmai said and added that most of the Liangmai culture and its history are based on oral accounts.
Newmai encouraged Liangmai writers to document and preserve the history and rich cultural heritage of the community.
The translator of the Madhavi, Kyzanliu Newmai said that she was impressed with the work of Dr Kamal.
She was inspired to translate the famed novel to enhance and encourage literature among the Liangmai community, she said expressing her admiration for Dr Kamal's writing style.
Concerned with the "diminishing" cultural identity of Liangmai, author of the book "Tahlung", Kentaliu Newmai lamented that most of the Liangmai youths are exposed to a great extent to western culture due to globalization.
"Since the book-Tahlung is based on aged tradition, culture, art and dance of Liangmai community, it will provide insights to the younger generations of the community," she said.
MLA 52 AC Tamei Awangbou Newmai, retired Associate Prof Dr L Sarat and convenor Manipur Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi N Kirankumar attended the book releasing ceremony as presidium members.
