New impetus to State tourism

As announced earlier, the foundation stones for three mega projects to be taken up in the State for giving a boost to development of tourism sector in the State were laid at Sendra in Bishnupur district today.
Of the three mega projects, the foundation stone for two projects, namely development of water tourist at Sendra Hillock, water sports complex at Takmu and other tourism facilities in the adjoining areas and setting up of an integrated cable car Sendra to Chaoba Ching and lakeside development project at Loktak lake were laid by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh while Secretary of Tourism, Government of India Parvez Dewan did the honour of laying the foundation stone of the third project namely opening of a Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition Institute at Nongmaiching in Imphal East district.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi expressed gratitude to the Union Tourism Secretary and said that taking up of these three mega projects along with the earlier sanctioned project for construction of pony sanctuaries at Kheba Ching, Kaina and Ibudhou Marjing is an enormous step towards giving a major impetus in the development of tourism sector in Manipur.
Observing that the projects to be taken up would become assets for the future generations, Chief Minister O Ibobi called upon the people of the state to invest their hard work and dedication so that the projects would become successful.
If situations arise, the government would seek public opinions to make the projects successful, he assured.
Taking strong exception to illegal construction taken up by private individuals near Takmu Water Sports Complex, the Chief Minister pointed out that the Government has already given compensation to construct an eco tourism park nearby.
In his address, Union Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan reiterated that the Government of India is keen to development of tourism in Manipur.
That is why, out of the total fund allocation of Ministry of Tourism for development in tourism sector for whole country, Manipur has given a share of 9 .
Apart from Parliamentary Secretary in charge of Tourism M.Prithviraj, MLA T.Mangibabu, Chief Secretary of the State PC Lawmkunga, Additional Chief Secretary R..RRashmi, Principal Secretary in-charge of Tourism Dr.Rajesh Kumar, Director of Tourism Shyamlal Poonia, other top officials of Bishnupur district police and civil servants and many people from Thanga and Moirang were also present during the foundation stone laying function.
