Mizoram is all set to observe the 3rd Mizoram Bamboo Day on March 6 .
In a press conference held at Aizawl Press Club today which was called by members of Mizoram Bamboo Day to preview with media persons regarding the observation of Mizoram Bamboo Day, Lalthangliana Murray, IFS, State Mission Director, NBM Society and Secretary of Mizoram Bamboo Day told reporters that like in previous years a greenly Mizoram state is all set to observe the 3rd Mizoram Bamboo Day on March 6 just a day before Mizoram greatest festival- 'Chapchar Kut'.
The theme selected for the 3rd Mizoram Bamboo Day is "Bamboo for Self Sufficiency" .
"As per government plan it is said that Bamboo Day be observed every year.
The 2nd Mizoram Bamboo Day was observed in the state last year during 27th February � 1st March.
Such an arrangement has been made this year to observe Bamboo Day which is effectively named the 3rd Mizoram Bamboo Day, so as to make the observation interrelated with the celebration of Chapchar Kut", Lalthangliana told reporters.
To mark the Bamboo Day observation with an awareness of bamboo as viable economic self sufficiency and an easy way for earning a living to the public mass, a symposium and exhibition will be organized during the Bamboo Day observation, Lalthangliana also said.
The symposium will start at 12 noon on the day at Assembly Secretariat Conference Hall in which Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla will grace the function as Chief Guest while Minister, E & F Deptt.
Lalrinmawia Ralte will be Guest of Honour.
.LTochhawng, IAS, the Chief Secretary of Mizoram will chair the function.
Besides, an experts and dignitaries from other states will also deliver a speech at the Symposium.
An exhibition as per planned is expected to last 2 days.
It will be opened for public at Assembly Secretariat Annexe between 6th and March 7 during which Mizoram bamboo crafts and other bamboo made products from Manipur, Tripura and Assam will be displayed for sale.
An award will also be given to those who have achieved distinguish success by making bamboo as their main source of livelihood.
The awards are to be given in various categories such as Best Bamboo Entrepreneur (Male) which carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000; Best Bamboo Entrepreneur (Female) with cash prize of Rs.10,000; Innovative Bamboo Products with Rs.10,000; Special Artistic Recognition with cash prize of Rs.10,000.It has also been decided to award best campaign YMA Branch.
Award for Best campaign to be given to YMA branch are- 1st Prize � Rs.15,000 ; 2nd Prize � 10,000 and 3rd Prize � 7,000.Besides the award, an Extempore Speech competition will be jointly organized by Mizoram Bamboo Day organizing committee and LPS Vision for college students which will be broadcasted live telecast on LSP Vision.
The First Prize of the competition carries Rs.15,000; 2nd Prize - 10,000 and the 3rd Prize will carry 7,000 in cash.
The Organizing Committee for the 3rd Mizoram Bamboo Day includes YMA, MUP, MHIP, MJA, Art & Culture Deptt., E & F Deptt., I & PR Deptt and Industries Deptt.

Industry Deptt is the chairperson of the organizing committee.
While Lalthangliana Murray, IFS, State Mission Director, National Bamboo Mission (NBM) Society and Conservator of Forest (CC), Environment and Forest Deptt is the secretary of the committee.
