Bike lifters held

City Police have apprehended three bike lifters along with stolen bikes.
Speaking to media persons this evening, City P/S OC RK Tejbir said that anti-theft squad, police personnel both in uniform and non-uniform have been maintaining a strict vigil in Imphal city area even though cases of vehicle theft have declined to some extent recently.
Acting on a specific tip off that some individuals were arranging to sell off stolen vehicles, a team of City Police managed to apprehend two bike lifters along with a Honda Activa in the afternoon of July 23 .
The two thieves have been identified as Yenshembam Niki alias Ipa alias Sumanta (27) s/o Manihar of Heirangoithong Ahongshangbam Leikai and Mayanglambam Roshan alias Naocha (25) s/o Achouba of Khagempalli Pankha, said Inspector Tejbir.
Based on their disclosure, Sorenshangbam Telheiba alias Mahindra (23) s/o Nilo of Kakwa Naorem Leikai was also pulled up on the next day.
Further, two Honda Activa scooters, one Yamaha RX-100 and one Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle which were hidden at different places by the trio were recovered, said Tejbir.
All the registration numbers of the five vehicles are fakes, and all their chassis numbers and engine numbers have been already tempered.
Two Honda Activa scooters have the same fake registration number.
The registration number painted on the Yamaha motorcycle was of an LML Vespa.
Until and unless, owners come and prove the vehicles as theirs, it would be hard to tell to whom the vehicles belong, Tejbir said.
He further advised all vehicle owners to use additional locking system.
All the three arrested persons were kept in police custody till July 30 with due permission of the relevant Court.
They have been further remanded to police custody till July 2 .
It has been learnt that the ring-leader of the gang engaged in bike-lifting belongs to Lilong, said the OC adding that further investigation is on.
