With the arrest of five activists, police has confirmed the floating of a new underground outfit Manipur National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the state.
The five activists of the new outfit were apprehended by the Bishnupur Police Commandos today with letter heads and mobile handsets.
SP, Bishnupur District Police, Jayentakumar said that they were rounded up during a 24-hour long search operation launched by police commandos of the district at Malom Tuhilal area based on a tip-off of the presence of some KYKL (MDF) activists.
The apprehended activists were identified as Mathurabastimayum Tarjit Sharma @ Tomba (42) son of Gouradas of Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Kongkham Birkumar @ Bebe (34) son of K Rajendro of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai, Ningthoujam Ranjit (42) son of Chandra of Thanga Salam Leikai, Konjengbam Inaobi @ Basanta (45) son of late Modhu of Wangkhei Khunou and Thoudam Premchandra (38) son of Th Mangi of Tupul Mayai Leikai.
Among the five activists Tarajit is the Self Styled Commander of the Finance Division looking after four valley districts.
Earlier he had close links with PLA and KYKL (MDF).
During verification, they all admitted that they are activists of the new group, the SP told reporters at his office chamber today.
From the disclosure made by them, the police came to know that the group was floated with one Nobin @ Khuman, a resident of Tamukhong Moirangpurel of Imphal east district, the SP further added.
SP, Jayentakumar, also revealed the group has so far dispatched demand letters to 20 government departments and were preparing to sending the same to 10 more departments.
The demand letters were signed by finance secretary, Nganthoi Meitei.
The demand letters seized by the police were monetary demands to be sent to the Director of education (s), Khadi and Village Industries, FCI, Planning Department, MOBC, Director of JNIMS, Education (U), Chief Engineer of Central Agriculture University, Chief Engineer CADA and Electricity.
