Raising their demands for appointment of regular principals and looking after infrastructural requirements, students from various colleges under the Govt of Manipur today marched towards the Chief Minister's bungalow from three different directions.
The agitating college students have also warned of taking recourse to various form of intense undemocratic agitations if the demands were not fulfilled by the end of September.
At around noon, students of GP Women's College, DM Colleges and MB College marched towards the Chief Minister's bungalow from three different directions with the intention of submitting a memorandum highlighting their demands.
The demands include appointment of regular principals in all the Govt colleges, appointment of regular Director, appointment of adequate teaching and non-teaching staff, providing necessary infrastructures including provisions for building, class rooms, drinking water, electricity supply, upgradation of laboratories and to stop transfer of teachers
frequently.
The agitating college students, however, were stopped by the police at Kanglapat, Sanjenthong and Nityapat Chuthek to prevent them from approaching further.
Afterward, some representatives of the agitating students were allowed to go and submit their memorandum.
However, they were denied meeting with the Chief Minister.
Instead they were allowed to meet Education Minister L Jayantakumar at the latter's office chamber.
Talking to mediapersons afterward at the complex of DM College of Arts, convenor of Co-ordination Committee on Colleges' Student Union L Sanjit informed that the Education Minister gave the assurance of fulfilling the demands within September.
As for the appointment of regular principals in colleges, the Minister apprised that MPSC has already started the process of recruitment.
Sanjit said that in consideration of the assurance given by the Education Minister, the agitating college students would wait till September.
In case, the demands were not fulfilled by that time, then various intense undemocratic form of agitations would be launched.
