Imphal, January 15 2015:
Taking strong exception to the discovery of human skulls and other skeletal remains during excavation at the erstwhile complex of Tombisana High School on December 25 last year, Pebiya Pandit Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup along with members of Families of the Involuntary Disappeared Association, Manipur (FIDAM) staged a sit-in-protest demonstration at Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai, Imphal West district on Thursday.
According to the protesters, the discovery of skeletal remains and human skulls came against the backdrop of disappearance of several individuals after they were picked up by personnel of security forces under the cover of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), 1958 .
Families of those whose whereabouts could not be traced ever since they were taken away by security forces have the right to know, they said.
Reminding that one Thokchom Lokendro of Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai was among the involuntarily disappeared persons, the protesters demanded that the judicial inquiry into the discovery case be completed at the earliest and reveals facts behind the mysterious discovery which has shocked the State.
Several placards reading, 'Skeletal remains discovered from Tombisana High School belong to human not animals', 'Government should establish identification of the discovered skeletal remains and human skulls', 'Value human body', etc were displayed during the protest demonstration.
