Disturbed Area status extended

A meeting of the state Cabinet on Tuesday gave its approval to the extension of Disturbed Area status in Manipur, excluding the seven Assembly segments, for another one year.
Briefing mediapersons after the meeting, Minister and Spokesperson of SPF government N Biren informed that the Cabinet has given its approval to extension of Disturbed Area status after a thorough review of the prevailing fluid law and order situation and the reports submitted by the security forces including Army.
Excluding the seven Assembly segments of Imphal Municipality, enforcement of Disturbed Area Status in rest of the state would remain for another year.
Among other recommendations adopted in the Cabinet meeting today, the Spokesperson further informed that it has been decided that the remaining 10 applicants out of the total 34 submitted for hearing before the District Re-organization Committee would be heard as soon as possible, in all 29 staffs including seven Principals and lecturers would be recruited under SCERT, Wangting of Saikul would be upgraded as SDC circle and a shopping mall will be construction at the present site of RDS High School and MAHUD would be entrusted with the responsibility of land transfer.
Furthermore, the Cabinet gave its nod to acquiring or purchasing land for setting up of an Urban Resource Centre or City Haat, construction of a Guest House of 5-star standard for VVIP visitors like Prime Minister at the present HC complex after it has been shifted to its new location, shifting of the office of IMC to the present main building of Manipur Legislative Assembly and used the newly constructed L-shaped building inside the same complex as offices for Town Planning, MAHUD, etc, expansion of Indira Park towards the existing bungalow of the Speaker and recruitment of 23 posts in the Election Department, Minister Biren said.
Apart from all these recommendations, today's Cabinet meeting had a detailed discussion on the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister and it was decided to press the Prime Minister for announcing development packages during his visit, the government spokesperson disclosed.
