e-payment to replace paper slips

In order to take a part in tackling global warming of which deforestation is one of the principal causes which is indirectly encouraged by the continuous demand for bamboo and wood pulp for manufacturing paper, the Government has initiated plans to make all kinds of payments electronically in place of the current system of issuing
paper slips.
Already, the State Government has received accolades for introducing the new system of paying salaries of employees electronically.
An official source informed that the State Government under its Green Initiative has decided to make all payments electronically in place of the current practice of using paper slips and cheques.
Under the new system, money would be transferred to the bank accounts of beneficiaries electronically.
Saying that Finance Commissioner Rakesh Ranjan has already issued a notice in this regard, the official informed that no other forms of money transfer would be allowed except through electronic medium in areas where there is core banking facility or electronics clearing service.
On the other hand, acknowledging its successful introduction of electronic clearance system for paying salaries to employees for the first time in the North East region, Manipur was awarded the second Jury Special Mention Award of e-norm east by the North East Development Foundation.
The award was presented to Treasury and Accounts Director Thokchom Kirankumar at a function held at Nagaland on November 25 .
It was Director Kiran-kumar who first experimented with the idea of electronics clearance system through which he distributed salaries to 23 staff of his office in October 2009 .
In addition to saving time, the new system enables employees to draw their salaries from their accounts at any time.
The new system has been already implemented for 31,188 employees of the State.
It is said that the new system would be introduced in other districts too which at present is confined to Imphal only.
