New tough anti-drug law soon: Dy CM Gaikhangam

In the wake of increasing cases of drug trafficking often with involvement of security personnel and high profile people in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has reiterated that the State Cabinet has already approved framing of an effective law to confiscate the properties of drug traffickers and it would be enacted very soon after having proper consultation with the Law Department.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam was speaking to media persons on the sidelines of 49th Death Anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of Independent India, at Congress Bhavan here today.
Gaikhangam further said that the menace of drug trafficking can be stopped only with the support of the people.
The drug traffickers should be given the severest punishment for their anti-social activity of trying to demolish the whole society for the sake of money, he asserted.
He also stated that a self-contained centre would be constructed for the surrendered UG cadres who have joined the mainstream along with laying down arms.
Gaikhangam further appealed to all to render utmost support to those surrendered cadres instead of treating them as "untouchables" .
They are also part of the society and they should be encouraged to make commendable contributions in the development of the State, he averred.
The Government would take up all possible measures for their welfare by imparting vocational training and self-employment programmes.
The self-contained centre would be constructed in an area of 100 to 200 acres at a proper location, he noted.
Deputy Chief Minister also exhorted the people to refrain from the path of violence and strive for peace and development.
The life history and contributions made by the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were elaborately mentioned by Gaikhangam in his speech given at the observance of 49th Death Anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru.
The Congress Ministers, MLAs and workers also paid homage to the first Prime Minister Nehru.
