AR hands over two NSCN-IM cadres to police with five assault rifles

Imphal, June 12 2011:
The NSCN (IM) town commander, apprehended by troops of 17 Assam Rifles along with a self-styled sergeant yesterday around 11.30 am, were on Sunday handed over to Imphal police station along with the arms and ammunition recovered from them.
The AR also handed over self-styled major Reishang Luikham (40) of Kongkan village, Ukhrul and No 17473 self-styled sergeant Ramthing Kashing (33) of Nambasi village, Ukhrul to Imphal PS along with the recovered items today.
The recovered items include a LMG (BREN MK-1) with a magazine, one SLR with four magazines, one AK-56 rifle, a Chinese AK -47 with six magazines, one M-22 rifle, 15 live rounds of LMG and 80 live rounds of SLR and 133 live rounds of AK.
A cash amount of ' 5070 was also seized from them, a release of the IGAR (S) said.
According to a report received here, like in previous cases in Tamenglong and Senapati districts, womenfolk of Ukhrul district headquarters attempted to secure unconditional release of the two cadres yesterday afternoon.
However, all their efforts went in vain, the AR authority asked the protestors to bring up the matter to the level of the IGAR (S) in Imphal.
The AR shifted the two cadres to Imphal by a chopper this morning in an apparent move to prevent any disturbances that are likely to come up while transporting them to Imphal by road, a report which could not be official confirmed said.
