Govt school breaks Matric-jinx

St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou excelled in the HSLC Examination 2011 with five of its students finishing among the top 10 position holders in addition to Ningthoujam Rishikanta Singh adding gloss to the institution by claiming the top spot with a total of 483 marks out of a possible of 500 .
for the record, Prakash Khundrakpam created a history of sort by becoming the first from a Government-run institution, in the last few years, to rank among the top ten position holders in the HSLC examination 2011 conducted by the Board of secondary Education.
He secured the 8th position.
Securing a total of 480 mark, Keisham Tampha Ibema of Tiny Tots' Unique School, Dewlahland secured the second position of the said examination for which a total 34,943 students appeared.
The pass percentage this year, recorded an impressive 71 percent, 10 percent more than the previous examination.
While N Rishikanta, son of N Manimohan Singh and N Memton Devi brought laurel to his school, his schoolmates Soubam Daniel Singh and Laiphrakpam Rashil Simon came in the third and fourth position respectively.
Wangkhem Jollyson and Siddarth Ningthoujam also maintained the momentum for St Joseph's School by bagging the seventh and eighth position respectively.
Others who found their place in the top 10 bracket include Chungkham Monika Devi of Glory English School/Imphal (fifth); Carlsson Chabungbam of tiny Tots' Unique School, Soram Robert Singh of Tiny Tots' Unique School, and Bande Thoudam of Little Flower School (sixth); Konjengbam Suchitra Devi of St Xavier's School (Moirang), Huidrom Clington of Imphal Public School and Prakash Khundrakpam of Keishamthong High School (eight); Khomdram Sadananda Singh of Bethel English School, Nambol Chingmang (ninth); and Ravina Moirangthem of Nirmalabas School (tenth) .
of the 71 pass percentage, 6759 of the total candidates secured first division marks, followed by 15,900 in the second division compared to 24,725 third divisioners.
Another highlight of this year's examination is that a total of 28 candidates achieved letter marks in Mathematics whereas topper N Rishikanta is the only one to secure letter mark in science (99/100) .
The highest letter mark in other subject was scored by Gaikhanguanpou Guanmei of Christian Grammar School, Tamenglong in Ruangmei subject with a total of 98 out 100 .
Inspite of Keishamthong High School, literally breaking the prolonged jinx of private institutions outshining Government schools, Education Minister DD Thaiisi conceded that more concerted effort is needed to produce outstanding students from Government schools.
Formally declaring the HSLC 2011 result tonight at the office of Board of Secondary Education Manipur, the Minister asserted that after minute assessment of the result, appropriate measures to ensure Government school students perform better in the future would be initiated.
